On the Alleged Absence of Gremlin Religion

Gremlins are sometimes described as naturally irreligious because they possess no universal Gremlin priesthood, ancestral cult, temple tradition, or shared creation myth. The conclusion confuses the absence of a common Gremlin religion with the absence of religion among Gremlins.

Gremlins adopt local religions with remarkable ease. A Gremlin raised in a Human city may worship Human gods, and one raised among Dwarves may participate in Dwarven rites. Another living in an Aesir household may observe Aesir funerary customs while retaining several practices learned elsewhere. This produces theological combinations which priests occasionally find distressing. Gremlins generally do not.

I once met a Gremlin who attended a Human temple on holy days, kept a Dwarven household shrine, and refused to work during an Aesir winter observance because, as he explained, “That one has better food.” A theologian accused him of insincerity, and the Gremlin replied that if the gods objected, they had several addresses at which to find him. No divine correction has yet been reported.
